DANGEROUS CONDUCT

DANGEROUS GOLF CONDUCT
PAR-3 HIT UPS

Dear Members,

It has come to the attention of the Men’s Golf Committee that there has been a recent instance of players teeing off on a par-3 while players from the group in front were still on the green putting out and waiting for a member of their group to join them on the green.  The group on the green DID NOT call-up the group on the tee.  Luckily no one was struck and a serious accident was avoided.

If you’re on a tee on a par-3 and there are players on or around the green in front, DO NOT tee off unless a member from your group CONFIRMS that they’ve SIGHTED the group providing a call-up gesture.   By making an assumption that they’re ready for you to tee off because of how you perceive their behaviour on or around the green without actually sighting a call-up gesture from the group on the green, is not appropriate and is extremely unsafe which could lead to a very serious injury.

Furthermore, the Club does not actually encourage calling up on par 3’s.  Playing golf involves inherent risks, including the risk of being struck by a golf ball. The risk of being struck significantly increases when players call-up the following group on a par-3 hole.  Any player or group calling-up a following group does so at the player’s/group’s own risk.

Lastly, proceeding to hit up without acknowledgement from the group ahead without all players in the group ahead being off the green surface (at the back of the green) may lead to disciplinary action including suspension of membership.
