Juniors: Encourage Shield R3

Encourage Shield 2025
Round 3 at Leonay

It was Leonay's turn to host the Encourage Shield for 2025. While the anticipation was high amongst the lads to perform well at their home ground, unfortunately the boys lost 4½ to 1½ to a Camden side that has played together for a couple of years. Still, our young fellas should not be discouraged, as the scores in individual matches were certainly close enough to be very proud of, considering Leonay is putting up a young team for the first time in many years who have only just started playing together. There are two rounds left to go and we're sure that all Leonay Golfing Members are wishing the team all the best for the remaining rounds.

Comments about the day from Les Knox, our President:
It has been such a pleasure working with these young men.  They are really forming into a team who never give up.  A couple of the boys fought back from what was looking like impossible positions yesterday.

Harry Commins came back from 6 down after 9 to win the next 3 holes.  His comment after the game was, 'I won the back nine'.  Len Partridge came back from being 5 down to be all square, only to lose one down.

An example of the team spirit that has been created is after Logan Schempp lost his game on the 15th hole, he came running to me and asked if he could help Len, who was in his same group.  Unfortunately, I had to tell him that he could not (as per the Encourage Shield rules). Logan still walked with Len over the next few holes supporting him without giving advice.

What a sight it was seeing so many players and supporters around the 18th hole to watch Len and Jordan finish their games.
