Juniors - Leonay in January

LEONAY JUNIOR REPORT
January 2026

Following the success of the first Juniors-Only competitions in October last year and the 2025 Encourage Shield Team, the Junior Development and Golf Committees, along with the Board, CEO and Golf Professional Ben Breckenridge have continued to look at ways of encouraging and supporting Leonay Juniors, whose membership grew by approximately 100 in 2025.

Two further Junior-Only competitions were held in January on 13th and 20th and 5 of our Encourage Shield Team were entered in the Junior Open Golf Tournament at Carnarvon on 19 January, 2026.

Once again, the Junior-Only days held in January were an outstanding success with 17 and 26 juniors playing on the respective days, with ages ranging from 10 to 16.

It is so uplifting for those organising these events to see the friendship that has developed between the juniors, which in many cases will last for a lifetime.  The feedback from Juniors and their parents was very positive, thanking the club for putting together such great days and food afterwards.

These days would not occur without support from Corey Fletcher (CEO) who provided food and drinks after the game.  Prizes, which included nett with and without handicaps, along with scratch, were taken from the Junior Development Fund (proceeds from Golf Lotto Raffles).

Congratulations to all involved, including Juniors, Management, Staff and organisers.  Special thanks must go to Maxine McNally who has supervised and given advice where required over all 18 holes at Leonay (2 rounds) and 18 holes at Carnarvon.

To all prize winners, well done, especially Fletcher Birks who continued his winning form from the Encourage Shield to win the boys 15-17 age competition at Carnarvon.
